ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime – the first Tegra 3 tablet

Today ASUS officially announced Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablet that is the world’s first device based on NVIDIA Tegra 3 system-on-chip. Like its predecessor, original Eee Pad Transformer, this tablet comes with a doc-station transforming this device to a netbook. The tablet runs on Android 3.2 Honeycomb but ASUS promises to release Android Ice Cream Sandwich update in next few weeks.


ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime is equipped with 10.1-inch 1280x800px Super IPS+ touchscreen with Gorilla Glass, 1GB RAM, 32GB or 64GB internal storage, MicroSD card slot, 8MP camera with LED flash, front-facing 1.2MP camera for video calls, 3.5mm headphones jack, microHDMI output, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, gyroscope, light sensor.

In US ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime with 32GB memory will cost about $500, 64GB version will be sold for $600. The doc-station is equipped with USB port, cardreader, additional battery and will be sold separately for $150.

This device is positioned as the world’s thinnest external hard drive. The producer of this storage device is G-Technology that is a part of the Hitachi Global Storage Technologies family. G-Drive Slim external storage drive is only 9.9mm thin and weights 144g. Inside the slick looking little enclosure it hides a new Hitachi GST 7mm Travelstar Z5K320 HDD. Power for the drive comes from the USB port. This drive is also quiet and rugged. G-Drive Slim is formatted for Mac and supports Time Machine file backup technology but future owners of this device will be able to reformat file system to work with Windows or Ubuntu. 320GB G-Drive Slim external HDD has been already available in US for $100.

It is one of the most expected devices. HTC HD7 is the first company’s mobile device running on new Windows Phone 7 operating system. It is expected to be officially announced in next few days. But we already have its list of specifications. HTC HD7 features 1GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 processor, 576MB RAM, 512MB ROM, 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen with 480x800px resolution (WVGA) and Multi-Touch technology support. Other specifications are quite usual for present-day high-end devices – 8GB internal storage (non-removable microSD memory card), 5MP camera with double LED flash, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS support, motion sensor, proximity sensor, 3.5mm headphones jack, 1230 mAh battery. At first this communicator will become in Europe in T-Mobile operator’s shops for EUR560 (about $750).

AmexDigital company has just launched the world’s smallest home media player. AmexDigital MP-501 is based on ARM Cortex A8 processor and supports Full HD playback. In spite of compact size it has not bad specifications. This media device is equipped with SD/SDHC, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output. The first information about this Google’s project appeared in May. But Google has already almost made it a reality. According to Engadget FCC has just approved Logitech Revue that is Google TV companion box. According to Google its new service will combine the TV with potential of Internet. There is no official information about its specifications. But it is known that this device is based on 1.2 GHz Intel CE4100 processor, runs on Android OS and is equipped with hard drive, Wi-Fi, HDMI output, USB 2.0 port. It is expected that Google TV service will be launched by the end of coming autumn.

Toshiba has just launched its new series of external hard drives – Toshiba Canvio. It includes four models featuring 500, 640, 750 GB and 1 TB capacities. All these pocket size devices have been already for order on official Toshiba’s site and cost $120, $140, $160 and $200 respectively. These portable hard drives measure 119х79х17mm. The weight of the 1 TB model is 179g. It is notable that there’s no separate power adapter to cart around – the drives spin off power from the USB 2.0 port. The Toshiba Canvio drives are formatted for use with Windows XP/Vista/7 and ship with Windows-based NTI BackupNow EZ backup software for users who don’t already have a backup solution. But future owners of these devices reformat it for use on Macs.

As it was expected Samsung officially announced its new flagship smartphone on CTIA Wireless 2010 exhibition. Samsung GT-I9000 Galaxy S is high-end device with impressive set of technical characteristics. It runs on Google Android 2.1 Eclair operating system with TouchWiz user interface. The list of pre-installed applications includes Social Hub that provides close integration with popular social networks.
One of its most remarkable features of this mobile device is 4 inch Super AMOLED display with 480x800px resolution and mDNIe (mobile Digital Natural Image engine) technology support. Other specifications are 1 GHz processor, 5 Mp camera with autofocus and flash, 0.3 Mp camera for video calls, 8.16 Gb built-in storage, MicroSD external memory slot (up to 32GB), Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), DLNA, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, 3.5 mm headphones jack, GPS, motion sensor, digital compass, accelerometer. 1500 mAh battery. Samsung Galaxy S measures 122.4×64.2×9.9mm and weights 118g.
This high-end device will become available in next few months. Unfortunately there is no information about price.
